Biocon’s Liraglutide Injection, an FDA-approved generic version of Saxenda® (liraglutide) injection, has the same active ingredient as Saxenda® and functions just like Saxenda®.
It aids weight loss and also long-term maintenance of a healthy weight in select patients.
Who may be prescribed liraglutide injection?
Liraglutide injection is an injectable prescription medicine used for weight-loss and keeping the weight off along with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity in the following patients:
Adults with obesity, or overweight adults who also have at least one weight-related medical problem
Teens aged 12 to 17 with obesity who have a body weight greater than 60 kg (132 lbs)
It is NOT for everyone:
- It is not known if liraglutide injection is safe and effective in children under 12 years.
- It is not known if liraglutide injection is safe and effective in teens (12–17) with Type 2 diabetes.
- It is not recommended for people who also take liraglutide or other medicines having
glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists.
Dosing Schedule
Liraglutide injection is injected once daily, at any time during the day, with or without food.
Your dose is increased gradually to help reduce side effects.
Dose escalation and maintenance (Adults and Pediatric ≥12):

Pediatric tolerability note:
Children may reduce their dose to 2.4 mg daily if the maximum dose is not tolerated.
Dose escalation for pediatric patients may take up to 8 weeks based on tolerability.
Missed dose guidance:
If you miss your daily dose, take your next daily dose as usual on the following day. Do not take an extra dose.
If you miss your dose for 3 days or more, call your healthcare provider to talk about how to restart treatment.
